Nick Boon

I am a printmaker and programmer living in Dublin. I graduated from NCAD in 2013 and was awarded the Black Church John Kelly RHA (1932-2006) Award and remain a studio member. In 2015 I completed a higher diploma in Computer Science at Dublin Business School.

I make quiet, thoughtful graphics.

Selected exhibitions include the RHA and RUA Annual Exhibitions, the RDS Student Art Awards Exhibition and Travelling Exhibition and group exhibitions in the Mermaid Arts Centre, The Library Project,the Talbot Gallery, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, The Cross Gallery and NCAD Gallery.

Dance

Copper plate etchings created for the Black Church Print Studio 30th Anniversary Collector’s Print Draw . For the plates I reused sprites created for programmed animations for The Death Of A Band, available on YouTube .

Pictagram

Graphical social media messaging app created for NETWORK exhibition , Dublin 2023. Posts submitted to the service were printed in real time to thermal printer roll and a live force directed graph of UTF character usage was projected on the gallery wall.

Light Lines

Group exhibition showcasing contemporary Irish printmaking with Anja Mahler, Fiona McDonald and Louise Peat and curated by Deborah Madden.

I submitted a selection of etchings and a dynamic computer visualisation of the I Ching , which was projected on a corner of the gallery.

Out Of Print

Group exhibition locating the activity of printmaking within the greater context of print curated by Andrew Folan.

Submission included etchings representing transformations of state, and figures negotiating lives in cloud. These were set against a running computer model of a shifting compass incorporating Cook Ding's knife from the Zhuangzi .

Theories

Unframed etchings with a projection of a computer model running on a Raspberry Pi. The model updated with randomly generated parameters every 2 seconds.
